Heart for Counseling
It can be a humbling experience to ask for help. It is my honor to come alongside people with emotional and mental struggles to support and problem-solve,and to provide short or long-term care. I have been greatly helped in my own life by Christian counseling and would not be able to offer assistance at a deep level without those counselors who helped me. This helps me with authentic empathy. I am strong on comprehensive evaluation. This evaluation is shared with the client as a starting point. Based always on my client’s goals and strong ethical practice, I will provide ongoing ideas for change balanced by acceptance. I am always willing to help clients seek other options if their needs would best be served in an additional or different way.
About Me
I would not be able to provide hope for the bigger questions in life outside my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith isn’t just for the life and death issues, it is also for our daily journey and is exceptionally practical. In counseling people, I start with understanding my clients as completely as they will allow and then offering down-to-earth, solution-focused interventions before moving onto more complex therapy.
I am an active counselor, and I will provide feedback from a place of over 30 years of clinical work. I have an ever present sense of humor, am creative, and love to get to know the stories of people’s life and share in their high/low moments and everything in between.
I respect the struggle people have in their unique experiences and the vulnerability it takes to benefit from therapy. I strive to provide a strong balance of unconditional acceptance with the challenge to break self-defeating behaviors or thought patterns. I am always willing to answer questions about why I make certain recommendations or work through ways to be more helpful.
I am not threatened by doubt or frustration people have when looking for solutions. Counseling is best if not left as a vague or mysterious process.
I am a dog-lover. I like walking, reading, coffee, and spending time with friends. I love nature and arm-chair adventures and hearing about the experiences of others. I love to worship with other Christians and am passionate in my determination to keep going in following Christ-knowing that nothing can keep God from fulfilling his promises. Not even my failures!
